Batten House

A small low cost extension to create an extra bedroom.

The clients approached us with an idea to extend their ground floor to include a new bedroom at the rear. They were looking for a contemporary, low-cost building that satisfied all the constraints of being located within the Tunbridge Wells Conservation Area.

Sustainability was also key to the design, so we designed a simple timber frame building with a green roof. The batten cladding sails over the building envelope to provide a dynamic form whilst respecting the neighbours rights to light. Yellow bi-fold doors provide a fun addition to the elevation and an unobstructed view and access to the garden.

The project was completed in December 2020.
